Turkey Day

This year we teamed up with the Shumways, another couple from church, and decided to have Thanksgiving with them. We were in charge of the turkey, stuffing, and of course the desserts. (pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin pie, and a sour cream apple pie- all of which were yummy, though I must admit that I did scorch the pumpkin pie when I reheated it and forgot to set a timer and remembered it about an hour later, OOPS!! Anyone for blackened pumpkin pie??? And if you are wondering if Jason is trying to kiss our turkey you are not seeing things, he really grew attached to his fowl friend...) Wednesday evening, around 7:30pm or so we were informed that instead of it being 4 adults and 3 babies for our turkey feast, that we would have an additional 9 people join us (Caleb's family decided to surprise everyone by driving up for Thanksgiving, he is the oldest of 10, but only 7 siblings were coming with his parents). I started to panic because our lovely bird, who we named Norbert, was only 12 lbs and would be plenty for 4, but not for 13, so we just decided to wing it (no pun intended!) and hope for the best. Norbert turned out beautifully as did the pies and so we packed up everything and joined the Shumway clan for dinner. Luckily 4 of the 7 siblings were under the age of 12 so Norbert did us justice and there was enough food to go around and around until everyone was good and full. The nice thing about it all was that we don't have leftovers!! So while everyone else is stuffing their faces full of extra stuffing and pie and packing on the pounds for days after, I do not have to join in the throngs!! So all in all, our turkey day was a success and we had a blast not only preparing Norbert and the pies, but also hanging out with the Shumways. So next year we will be seasoned turkey people and if extra people decide to drop in, we won't be overly shocked or surprised. We hope that everyone had a great holiday feast and that they were able to reflect a bit on what they are thankful for most, we sure did! Last year around this time we were waiting on Preston while he decided to wait and get some Thanksgiving dinner before making his grand appearance a couple of days later, so we are sure thankful he is with us and making our lives all the more fun and full. Happy Thanksgiving, now quick, time to gear up for Christmas... oy vey!

(Preston was enjoying all the holiday bustle and got in the spirit by wearing his pumpkin socks! What a sport!)
